JOB DESCRIPTION


Position Title : Director – Media and Communications

JOB GRADE:

Divisions : Public Engagement
Department: Media and communications Department

I. POSITION PURPOSE/JOB MISSION: 1) To provide leadership to World Vision India’s engagement with the media at the national level through formulation of strategies and initiatives that position World Vision’s work and brand. 2) To coordinate provision of quality communications resources to partnership proactively, on request and during disasters

II. POSITION GOALS AND OBJECTIVES (Generic Performance Measures)
• Position key issues of ‘Children in Crisis’ among media leaders
• Position World Vision’s work and brand with key media leaders at the national leaders
• Build up a network of leading journalist who are aware and able to report on social issues
• Protect and enhance the image of World Vision India with key stakeholders

III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (BASED ON GOALS AND OBJECTIVES)
• Create and implement strategies at the national level to engage with key media leaders and position World Vision’s work and brand
• Proactively review and enhance the World Vision India brand communications platform to ensure that all World Vision India functionaries communicate with ‘one voice’.
• Provide leadership to team of communications coordinators providing quality communications resources to the partnership proactively as well as based on requests
• Proactively build innovative communications channels, opportunities and events to position World Vision’s brand and work with key audiences
• Build up capacity of the team to respond as per partnership standards to major disasters and emergencies
• Provide strategic leadership and capacity building support to ADPs, projects and PMOs in media relations
• Plan, coordinate and implement yearly external relations campaigns on issues of ‘Children in Crisis’
• Proactively develop strategies to monitor potential and actual attacks on World Vision in the media and lead the organization in responding to them so as the protect World Vision’s image and reputation.


IV. CAPABILITIES /COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
• Knowledge of mass media and communications – training in mass communications and journalism preferred
• Proven leadership skills
• Ability to think strategically and act
• Knowledge and understanding of development theory and practices – especially World Vision’s transformational development framework

• Experience in creating engagement strategies to advocate for issues and the brand of an organization
• Experience in team management and leadership
