The Peopleˇ¦s Patents Group (PPG) of the Human Rights Law Network, New Delhi seeks applicants for the post of researcher in Public Health and Intellectual Property and Agricultural Biotechnology and Intellectual Property. (2 posts)


The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) is a collective of lawyers and social activists, dedicated to the use of legal system to advance human rights.

HRLN collaborates with social movements, human rights organizations, and grass-roots development groups to enforce the rights of, amongst others, farmers, tribal, HIV positive and affected people, people with disabilities, prisoners, etc. The primary focus of HRLNˇ¦s Peopleˇ¦s Patent Group is:
„« To explore the possibility of the use of legal tools like Public Interest Litigation and legal interventions to protect the rights of the poor and needy.
„« To undertake legal research in the area of Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), public health and agriculture/ farmerˇ¦s rights and food security in India and influence policy and law making process.
„« Publish policy papers and policy documents
„« Organize seminars for sharing knowledge and advocating on key policy issues.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

Applicants must:
„« Have completed or be completing degrees in law, economics, public health, agriculture, biotechnology or a related discipline.
„« Have excellent written and spoken English
„« Prove the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with a range of professional workers and individuals in the community.
„« Demonstrate an interest in this discipline (Publications, paper presentations, etc)

Key Responsibilities

The legal researcher is expected to, among others:

„« Assist on ongoing research projects including briefing papers, Public Interest Litigations, Publications, etc
„« Travel to various parts of the country for empirical research
„« Participation & representation in national and international events
„« Prepare reports on programme activities and projects administered under the Programme.
„« Work on a publishable working paper on the issue of his/her interest.

Salary and remuneration will be paid according to merits.
