ARK is an international charity, whose purpose is to transform children’s lives – established in 2002 by a group of successful business leaders from the alternative investment industry with a shared vision to deliver results which improve the life chances of children. ARK maximises its impact by creating and managing innovative programmes which it rigorously researches, monitors and evaluates to ensure the work it undertakes is effective and sustainable.

School Leaders for India (SLI) is an innovative programme recently launched in India. The focus of the programme is to train future leaders who will serve schools that cater to under-privileged children. The programme is currently offered in Mumbai and Pune and will expand to other cities in India over time. Currently there are 12 future leaders who are undergoing training which includes a combination of in-classroom training and 2 residencies in low cost low resource and low cost high resource schools respectively. This will grow rapidly over the next few years. SLI trainers include a very reputed faculty from the UK ARK Schools and consultants from across India and the UK.

The Position
The ME&R officer will carry out all duties related to Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting for the programme. She / he will report to the Director of Education and work closely with ME&R Central (UK).

The Candidate
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience of research and/or monitoring and evaluation, including data collection, data processing and analysis, and reporting and have acquired a master’s degree in the social sciences, business or economics. Five years experience of research and/or monitoring and evaluation in the development sector or with donor agencies is desirable. The candidate should possess the following skills:
• knowledge of development (programme management)
• knowledge of results based management / performance management
• basic knowledge of education is highly desirable
• knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methodologies
• ability to analyse and report on quantitative and qualitative data
• proficiency in using the MS Office suite
• excellent writing and oral communication, presentation
• ability to collate information from multiple sources
• able to work in diverse contexts
• takes initiative and demonstrates ability to work independently and under direction
• able to generate practical approaches to challenging situations
• recognises and responds to ideas, interests and concerns of others
• promotes the vision, mission, values of ARK

Duties and responsibilities
• developing tools for data collection (as appropriate)
• collecting and recording data,
• reporting and analysing progress against Business Plans and designing the format of such progress reports;
• reviewing existing data for the programme area to assess if it can provide good performance data, identifying gaps to be filled;
• refining programme goals, objectives hierarchies and strategies
• clarifying programme results trajectories (inputs, outputs, outcomes and impacts);
• determining information needs of key stakeholders
• identifying and designing performance questions, key indicators and targets for each programme component and for each level of the objective hierarchy;
• drawing up terms of reference, designing and costing out a baseline survey (as appropriate);
• preparing the quarterly performance reports with management
• collaborating with ME&R Central on external evaluations
