Job Title : National Coordinator, India

Location : Mumbai, India


Leonard Cheshire Disability exists to change attitude to disability and to serve disabled people around the world. We have been supporting disabled people for almost 60 years and are active in 55 countries, supported by more than 250 Leonard Cheshire Partners. LCD is UK’s largest voluntary sector organization, providing support to disabled people.

The first Cheshire Home in India was established in 1954 in Mumbai. The office of the National Council, the apex body of all Cheshire Services is presently situated in India. There are 23 Cheshire services spread across the country and are currently reaching out to nearly 10,000 disabled people. We focus mainly on Inclusive Education, Economic Empowerment, Health and Rehabilitation, Support for Everyday Living and active Advocacy & Campaigning besides providing residential care for the severely disabled people.

We are currently looking for a National Coordinator for Cheshire Homes India at our National Council Office in Mumbai.

Job Profile:

The post holder will:
• Support the National Chairman in the day to day function of the National Council
• Coordinate and support the existing 23 Cheshire Services across India
• Ensure effective communication channel between the Cheshire Services and the National Council, LCD South Asia Regional Office ( SARO), Bangalore and LCD Head Office, UK
• Facilitate Cheshire Services to come up with innovative strategies to improve the existing programme and to reach to the disabled people in the neighboring communities and under the guidance of LCD SARO.
• Ensure documentation and reporting at periodical basis. Support in acquiring legal entity of the Cheshire Services
• Effective coordination with other agencies, government and corporate bodies to promote rights of the disabled people and enhance the visibility of the organisation
• Support to Cheshire services and the National Council to raise financial and technical resource with active support from LCD SARO
• Take active role in organising national level Cheshire Meet and National Council meeting.
• Responsible for the management of community programme currently managed by the Cheshire Service, Mumbai


Qualifications and Experience

• Masters degree in Social Work/ Social Sciences or any relevant disability and development studies.
• 5 years experience in disability and development work.
• Experience in management affairs including planning, budgeting and finance
• Experience in extending support to developing fundraising proposals
• Good interpersonal skill to deal effectively with high-ranking Government, Private and Corporate sector officials
• Strong communication and presentation skills
